Having been brought up within the horse racing environment, the owners of Knightswood feel passionate about the rehoming of ex-racehorses.
Thoroughbreds leave the racing world for a wide variety of reasons. Being extremely intelligent and adapting well to other disciplines, we know these horses can thrive in a second career. Although not always suited to the novice rider, ex-racehorses can flourish in a wide range of equine sports including Show Jumping, Cross Country, Hunting, Dressage, Polo and Endurance.
Here at Knightswood, we provide a slower and more relaxed pace of country life, which has had an astonishing affect of calming very highly strung horses. After a period of rest and recuperation, our horses are assessed on their abilities and retrained as appropriate. We then look for experienced people who can give the required time and commitment that a thoroughbred needs whilst understanding the responsibilities of taking on a former racehorse. In return they gain a faithful, loving horse who is eager to please and enjoy his second stage of life.
